Leake Turns One Around

Photo by Barry S. Stahl dated 2009-03-23

Ten years ago today, Mike Leake took a no-hitter into the 8th inning, eventually turning in a 1-hit shutout masterpiece against #15 Missouri. Leake was far more to the Sun Devils than just a pitcher however. A few days earlier, he contributed mightily with his bat in leading the Sun Devils in their crushing of the U of A 23-9.

Mark and Jason Kipnis

Photo by Barry S. Stahl dated 2009-06-08

This is my all-time favorite Sun Devil photo so it is fitting as a kick-off to this photoblog. In this image from June of 2009, Jason Kipnis hugs his father Mark after the Sun Devils punched their ticket to Omaha for the College World Series by beating Clemson 8-2. The Sun Devils swept the best-of-3 Super--Regional series to earn their 21st College World Series appearance.
