Sun Devil 4 Life, Kole Calhoun, announced his retirement from MLB on Friday night after 12 seasons. In his time at ASU, Kole became know as "The Mayor of Omaha", due to his performance at the College World Series in 2009 where he was named to the all-tournament team. Congratulations on an amazing career Kole Calhoun!
It is appropriate that we re-launch this site and its corresponding social media presence with an image of our favorite Sun Devil, Jacob Tobias, who kicked-off the 2024 season leading ASU's powerful offense. In 16 plate appearances against Santa Clara during the opening weekend, Tobi had 7 hits including 2 HR and reached-base 9 times for an OPS of 1.563.
Andrew Romine, best known for being the 5th player in MLB history to play all 9 positions in a single game, has announced his retirement after 11 seasons in the Majors. Romine played 3 seasons with the Sun Devils, playing alongside fellow major leaguers like Brett Wallace, Eric Sogard, Ike Davis, Travis Buck and Tuffy Gosewisch. Enjoy your retirement Andrew.
ASU Baseball's fall session is here, so let's take a look around the diamond at the players that will be on the roster under new head coach and Sun Devil for Life, Willie Bloomquist. Our first look is at Adam Tulloch, the starter for Saturday's 16 innings of fall ball against the Dirtbags of Long Beach State.
This YouTube video shows every hit that Spencer Torkelson got during the Sun Devil's appearance in the 2019 NCAA tournament regionals. Oh what could have been in 2020.
Another Sun Devil that will be on the Detroit Tigers Major League Roster very soon is Gage Workman. According to Mike Axisa of CBSSports.com, the Tigers "...flat out store Arizona State infielder Gage Workman in the fourth round." contributing to the Tigers' outstanding draft. Detroit's gain is our loss. Thank you for the outstanding years at ASU Gage, we look forward to seeing you on TV in a Tigers uniform soon.
Though Sun Devils everywhere are crushed that we won't get to see what you could have accomplished at this level in 2020, we are excited to see what you do at the next level. To all of the members of the 2020 ASU MLB draft class, we wish you the very best. Give 'em Hell, Devils!
No batter in baseball has been hotter than ASU second baseman Drew Swift over the last 3 weeks. In the 11 game stretch from Feb 18 - Mar 6 Swift hit an amazing .500 (22/44) with 8 runs scored and 16 RBIs.
